How to Apply Perfume Modestly
By Barb Nefer
Overview
Perfume can be a pleasant enhancement, but if you apply too much it can actually be an annoyance to others. By applying your perfume modestly, you will ensure that your scent is enjoyed by those around you without overwhelming them.
Step 1
Apply the perfume before you get dressed and put on your jewelry. Otherwise, it might mark your clothing with noticeable stains and some types can also stain metals.
Step 2
Apply light dabs of the perfume to your pressure points, which include the insides of your ankles, the back of your knees, your hips, the cleave of your breasts, the nape of your neck, behind your ears, inside your elbow crooks and the inside of your wrists. Use a cotton ball rather than spraying it on because cotton will allow you to apply a lighter amount.
Step 3
If you have a dark skin tone or your skin is normally oily, apply smaller amounts of perfume. The scent of perfume wears off more quickly when you have light or dry skin, so if you are fair or your skin tends to be dry you will need to apply a larger amount or refresh your perfume more frequently.
Step 4
Place your perfume containers into airtight plastic containers and store them in the refrigerator between uses. This will keep the perfume "fresh" and slow down oxidation, which breaks down its scent. This will allow you to use smaller amounts of perfume, even from bottles that have already been opened.
