Applying makeup can be made easier with some key tips from the professionals. They'll help you accentuate your best features, such as your eyes, or tone down your too-long nose. Use makeup to create either a dramatic look for nighttime events or a more subdued effect for everyday wear.
Face
Apply a high-quality, SPF 15-or-higher facial moisturizer before using makeup and before bedtime. Rub the moisturizer between your fingers before application to warm the cream for easier application. Dab the moisturizer on the skin, pressing into the skin rather than rubbing.
Dot concealer that matches your skin tone below the eyes and along any noticeable wrinkles such as around the mouth. Dab it into your skin with a light pressing motion. Apply foundation in the same manner, blending it with the concealer. To hide blemishes or dark circles, apply concealer after foundation to help it last longer.
Blush should always be applied sparingly, especially for daytime wear. Remember that with your foundation base, your blush will last longer. Less is more. Regardless of facial shape, begin blush application on the cheekbone below the center of the eye.
Eyes
Begin every application of eye makeup with the base of a good eye cream. Apply the eye cream in dots to the sensitive skin below the eyes and on the edges of the eyes where crows feet can form. Press the moisturizer gently into the skin with the pads of the fingers. Don't rub this tender skin.
Apply a fine layer of skin-toned foundation to the eyelids and lower brow area. This base will make your eye color more vibrant and will help your eye shadow last longer. Use matte-colored eye shadow to help hide eye puffiness. Use your darker colored eye shadow in the bend of the eyelid, medium-colored shadow on the lid and lighter colored shadow on the brown bone. This method enhances the eyes, making them look bigger.
Apply eyeliner sparingly right along the lash line. Smudge the line lightly with a Q-tip to blend the eyeliner into your lash line. Instead of pumping the mascara wand in the bottle to grab more mascara, try spinning the lash wand instead. This will prevent air from getting inside your mascara and drying the product out quickly.
Eyebrows
Your eyebrows frame the eyes and can enhance or detract from your makeup. When plucking the eyebrows, place your finger against the skin above the brow and press up gently. This forms the natural curve when you arch your brows. Pluck the stragglers and apply eyebrow pencil with this same method. Don't draw a line but, instead, make short, small strokes with the eyebrow pencil that best matches your brow color. Blend with a brow brush to even our the color.
Lips
Lip moisturizing creams are a must, even at a young age. Use a lip pencil to prevent feathering of lipstick and remember that lip liner should match lipstick in color. Apply moisturizer to your lips to make lip lining more smooth. Don't try to draw one continuous line across the bottom and top of the lip. Instead, use the lip liner to draw small sections at a time then blend them together with the pencil.
